The Seven Nature Parks in South Tyrol
There are seven nature parks in South Tyrol. They are not, however, the only protected areas in the province: the Stelvio National Park is also a designated area of protection. These protected areas share the common goal of protecting special natural and cultivated landscapes in their original form. Their differences lie precisely in the special features that they protect.
1/7 Schlern-Rosengarten / Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park
... protects the unique Dolomite landscape on and around the Schlern, emblematic mountain of South Tyrol, and the rocky formations of the Rosengarten.
2/7 Texelgruppe / Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park
... is the largest nature park of South Tyrol and boasts an immense variety of landscapes which have been shaped and created by water.
3/7 Puez-Geisler / Puez-Odle Nature Park
... opens a window into the history of the Earth: The majority of the rock strata typical of the Dolomites can be found on and around the summits of the Puez, the Geisler Group and the Peitlerkofel.
4/7 Fanes-Sennes-Prags / Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park
... preserves the vast calcareous grasslands and unique karst forms of the Braies Dolomites and the Fanes Group.
5/7 Trudner Horn / Monte Corno Nature Park
... is the only Nature Park situated entirely beneath 2,000 m above sea level, and is home to the widest variety of flora and fauna species of all the nature parks.
6/7 Drei Zinnen / Tre Cime Nature Park
... covers the forest land, alpine pastures and rocky landscape of one of the most well-known areas of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites - the wild, rugged Sexten Dolomites.
7/7 Rieserferner-Ahrn / Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park
... safeguards the vast landscape shaped by alpine farming and rocky areas between Antholz and the Tauferer Ahrntal Valley.
